Stock Up, Stock Down: Kentucky’s Week 2 vs. Ole Miss

UK Athletics

Kentucky battled hard in front of 58,346 at Kroger Field but couldn’t overcome Ole Miss’ balance in a 30–23 defeat. The Wildcats showed flashes on both sides of the ball, yet missed chances and breakdowns proved costly. Here’s whose stock rose — and whose fell.

📈 Stock Up

RB Seth McGowan
McGowan was the offensive spark, rushing for 93 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries (6.2 YPC). He consistently created positive plays and showed the burst that kept Kentucky in striking distance.

DB Ty Bryant
Bryant made arguably the biggest defensive plays of the night with two interceptions returned for 25 yards. His instincts and positioning gave Kentucky extra possessions and a shot to seize momentum early.

K Jacob Kauwe
In a game where points were tough to come by, Kauwe delivered. He hit all three of his field goal attempts, including a 39-yarder in the final seconds to keep the margin within one score.

📉 Stock Down

Quarterback Play
Both Zach Calzada (15-of-30, 149 yards) and Cutter Boley (1-of-3, 38 yards) struggled to sustain drives. Kentucky finished with just 187 passing yards and no touchdowns through the air. The inability to stretch Ole Miss vertically limited the offense.

Pass Protection
The offensive line gave up three sacks and multiple hurries, including drive-killers in the fourth quarter. Kentucky’s QBs rarely had time to get comfortable, especially against Ole Miss’ front led by Princewill Umanmielen and Zxavian Harris.

Run Defense
Ole Miss piled up 220 rushing yards, led by Kewan Lacy’s 138. The Rebels consistently won at the line of scrimmage, particularly in the second and third quarters, grinding down Kentucky’s front seven.

Closing

Kentucky showed grit, but flaws in the passing game and defensive front kept them from knocking off the Rebels. How McGowan, Bryant, and others trend will be crucial as the Wildcats prepare for their next matchup.
