Sedrick Alexander and Eli Stowers

Vanderbilt Athletics

A pair of Vanderbilt football student-athletes from Texas are candidates for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award with the announcement Wednesday that both Sedrick Alexander and Eli Stowers are included on the watch list for the honor.

The award recognizes the top offensive player in NCAA Division I football who also exhibits the characteristics former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL running back Earl Campbell displays: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity. Candidates for the honor must also either have played and graduated from a Texas high school or play at an NCAA Division I four-year institution.

A native of Austin, Alexander rushed for 586 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore for the Commodores last fall, and he also caught 23 passes for 238 yards and a score to end up second on the squad with 824 all-purpose yards. He led Vandy in rushing in five games, including being named to the honorable mention list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award’s weekly recognition after recording a career-high 64 yards and two touchdowns in a win over No. 1 Alabama.

Stowers, who hails from Denton, posted 49 receptions for 638 yards and five scores—all totals that paced the Dores last fall—to be selected first-team All-SEC as well as third-team All-America by Phil Steele. The tight end led Vanderbilt in receiving yards five times a year ago, and was included on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention List twice after finishing with 113 yards in the victory over the Crimson Tide and a career-best 130 yards in a defeat of Ball State.

Vandy plays host to Charleston Southern in its 2025 season opener, kickoff at FirstBank Stadium is slated for 6 p.m. on Aug. 30. Information about season ticket, mini-plan and single-game ticket options for the Commodores’ seven home games this fall is available here.
