Maryland placekicker Sean O’Haire has been named one of the Lou Groza Award “Stars of the Week,” the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Wednesday.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, honors the nation’s top kickers and recognizes three standout performers each week from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). O’Haire is joined this week by Bowling Green’s Jackson Kleather and Hawai’i’s Kansei Matsuzawa.

In his Maryland debut, O’Haire delivered a perfect performance, converting all three field goal attempts and all four extra points in the Terrapins’ 39-7 victory over Florida Atlantic. The redshirt freshman from Kildare, Ireland, connected on field goals from 49, 42, and 24 yards.

O’Haire’s three field goals marked the most by a Terrapin in a debut since 1996. His 49-yarder was the longest made field goal by a Maryland player for his first career attempt in at least the past 29 seasons. He is also the only kicker in the nation this season to make at least three field goals in a game with multiple conversions of 40 yards or longer.
