Week 1 gave us clarity in the SEC, with several teams flashing early-season dominance while others stumbled out of the gate. With a loaded slate in Week 2, the tone is already being set for what could be one of the most competitive years in recent memory.
LSU: Brian Kelly’s Tigers proved their toughness with a 17-10 road win at Clemson, powered by Garrett Nussmeier’s poise in crunch time and a brand-new offensive line that held up when it mattered. LSU didn’t light up the scoreboard, but they showed they can win in the trenches.
Georgia: Gunner Stockton may not be a household name yet, but his debut as Georgia’s starter looked the part. He accounted for four total touchdowns in a 45-7 rout of Marshall, becoming the first Bulldog QB to lead the team in rushing since Justin Fields in 2018.
Ole Miss: Lane Kiffin’s squad sent a message with a 63-7 demolition of Georgia State. The Rebels rolled up nearly 700 yards of offense, and running back Kewan Lacy broke out with 108 yards and three scores in his first game in Oxford.
Tennessee: Josh Heupel’s Vols opened with a statement win over Syracuse in Atlanta. Transfer QB Joey Aguilar threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, while redshirt freshman Braylon Staley showed game-breaking speed on a 73-yard touchdown reception.
Arkansas: Taylen Green wasted no time introducing himself to Fayetteville. The Boise State transfer tossed six touchdown passes in a 52-7 blowout of Alabama A&M, tying the second-most in program history. Suddenly, Arkansas feels like a team that could make noise.
Alabama & Texas: Not everything was rosy for the league. Both heavyweights opened with losses—Alabama falling to Florida State 31-17, while Texas dropped a hard-fought 14-7 game at Ohio State. Both will have plenty of chances to rebound, but the margin for error is thinner than usual.
After just one week, we’ve already got storylines everywhere: Nussmeier steadying LSU, Taylen Green taking Arkansas to another level, and some bluebloods taking a hit. The fun part? It’s only September, and the real tests are just getting started.
