The North Texas Mean Green hit the road for their first true test of the 2025 season, traveling to Waldo Stadium on Saturday, September 6, for a matchup with Western Michigan. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

North Texas (1-0) comes in riding high after a 51-0 drubbing of Lamar to open the year. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker looked every bit in command of the offense, throwing for 329 yards on 24-of-32 passing with three touchdowns. He even chipped in a rushing score, giving defensive coordinators plenty to think about. His top target, Cameron Dorner, hauled in seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, while Kiefer Sibley paced the ground game with 38 yards and a score.

Western Michigan (0-1) had a much different experience in its opener, falling 23-6 at Michigan State. The Broncos’ offense struggled to find rhythm against a stout Spartan defense, finishing with fewer than 100 passing yards. Quarterback Brady Jones completed 11-of-23 passes for 97 yards with an interception, while star back Jalen Buckley was bottled up for just 21 yards on nine carries. The bright spot came from receiver Baylin Brooks, who flashed big-play ability with three catches for 85 yards.

The Broncos will need more of that Saturday if they want to hang with the Mean Green. North Texas not only brings balance offensively but also a defense that pitched a shutout last week. While Lamar doesn’t offer the same challenges as a MAC opponent, confidence is building in Denton that this roster has the pieces to contend in the American.

Oddsmakers have taken notice, installing the Mean Green as 10-point road favorites with an over/under set at 59.5 points. For Western Michigan, this game is about proving the offense can find consistency and keep Buckley involved, while for North Texas it’s about showing that Week 1 wasn’t just a tune-up but the start of something bigger.
